Glossary

Aldhi (Ahld- HEE): Wolves who have bonded themselves to the elements and now can control them to some degree. It takes a great ordeal to bond yourself to the elements. This ordeal is kept secret among the Aldhi who have been chosen to administrate it. The Kyrnin are usually the ones who have the greatest affinity to ‘magic’ because of the nature of where they live, so they produce most of the Aldhi. It is not impossible for an Aldhi to come from another ‘pack’ besides the Kyrnin but it IS rare. The pack that produces the least Aldhi is the Rowalkin, their last Aldhi died over 300 years ago. The magical ability of an Aldhi is proportional to the amount of ‘will’ they have and how closely bonded to the elements they are.

Andrew: The male leader of the Tyr, a fire/ air Aldhi and a prophet.

Aubin (AWE-ben): The female sightless connected to air.

Between, The: The area ‘between’ the wolves’ world and the otherworld. A Sort of limbo. The Kyrnin live there.

Blindfire: The sire of the sightless. A powerful Aldhi. Born blind. Said to be part shifter. Currently leads ‘The Nine Packs’.

Chirikov (CHEER-EE-kawve): The old leader of the Kyrnin. Disappeared into the otherworld while driving back the scalefangs.

Cub: A baby wolf of any sub-species.

Elements, The: There are seven known ‘elements’ they are the substance that makes up the ‘elemental flow’ that all magic is drawn from. According to the wolves the flow was created by ‘The great creator’ at the beginning of time. The flow consists of the ‘essences’ of each element. Essences can only be controlled for a temporary amount of time. If an Aldhi grasps onto an essence for too long the essence will consume them, slowly but surely, and will kill them. The seven known essences are Spirit, Life-and-Death, Water, Earth, Air, Fire, and “Ice”(What ‘ice’ is, is really unknown. But it DOES make things cold . But it is not true ice). Different combinations of the essences of the elements can do different things. For example it takes a combination of Water and Earth to heal someone and Fire added to the mix speeds the healing.

Hakan (Haw-KHAN) : A male sightless linked to fire.

Heavens, The: (See Tri-spirits)

Kyrnin ( KEER-nen): The pack that dwells in The Between. They have a penchant for magic. Their physical appearance is usually reddish-brown to red fur. Long slim heads and muzzles (A little like a greyhounds muzzle and head), narrow long eyes, long graceful legs, and eye colors ranging from green to yellow-green. Their leader is Rodain.

Lightfall: (1) one who kills the light, evil inside and out. It is a curse among the wolves. (2) The ‘seventh sightless’. Not really a sightless as he can see. He can see both the otherworld and the wolves’ world at the same time and can open and close links between the two worlds. Has practically no control over his powers and for it was banished before he was named.

Lightkiller: See Lightfall

Masiaka (Mah-SEE-ah-kah): (1) Old tongue for Caustic. (2) The adopted name of one of the sightless. (3) One of the Sightless. Connected to the powers of life and death.

Misty: Her true name is unknown. She is a powerful member of the Ravenas pack. A VERY powerful healer/water/earth-Aldhi. Like most Ravenas she is bonded to a bird. Her bird ‘companion’ is Copperhead, a Songeagle.

Nine Packs, The : A coalition of The Packs. (See also: Pack)

Otherworld: The world ‘adjacent’ to the wolves’ world. It’s inhabited by many ‘strange’ creatures. The Songeagles originally immigrated from this world when the scalefangs invaded it. It can be reached by going through a direct portal (This is VERY dangerous and will often kill the person

Pack : A large group of wolves consisting of several smaller TRUE packs (Like we have on earth) called ‘sub-packs’. Each Pack is lead by a ‘leader’ and the sub-packs are lead by Alphas. All the packs are governed by one the leaders choose in a vote amongst themselves. The leader for a long time has been Blindfire. The collation of all the Packs is called ‘The Nine Packs’, though recently three of the packs left for seemingly no reason. The six packs that remained are the Kyrnin, the Rowalkin, the Nyrfellyn, the Trythhin, the Limandi, and the Ravenas. The Packs that left are the Snowslates, the Fenris, and the Tyr.

Pakuna: A small nocturnal deer like creature roughly the size of a medium sized cat.

Pup: See Cub

Ravensbane: A swearword among wolves.

Rodain(ROE-dane): The young, female and talented Aldhi that is the leader of the Kyrnin.

Rowalkin(ROE-wail-KEEN): A Pack that lives in a huge semi-swampy territory. They have a low affinity to magic. Their physical appearance is that they are HUGE wolves, latterly the size of horses, They have large roundish eyes, Their coat colors range from gray to an orange-red and they are often marked with tiger like stripes, they have almost abnormally large canine teeth, despite their size they are incredibly nimble and intelligent. With use of their strength and intelligence they have managed to fashion beaver-dam like houses in the sort earth of their swampy territory. They have a hate of the Trythhin. Their Leader is Taiga.

Runaway: A cub that is shown to have remarkable talent in one area, most commonly in the ability to hunt. These cubs are treated differently from pack to pack.

Scalefangs: Huge flying lizard like creatures that have invaded the otherworld and now are attempting to invade the wolves’ world.

Shasa(Sha-SAH) : The female sightless linked to water.

Shifters, The: The wolf like inhabitants of the otherworld. Can change from a wolf form to a ‘bipedal’ form. They are strongly linked to magic at birth. They are feared and hated by all but one of the packs.

Sightless, The: Six of the litter sired by Blindfire. All are connected to some sort of power. Four are connected to the ‘prime elements’ and two are ‘corrupted’. The Prime elements are Hakan – Fire , Shasa – Water , Aubin – Air , and Nitesh – Earth. The two bound to ‘corrupted’ elements are Masiaka – ‘Acid’; Life and death, and Yepa – ‘Ice’ . Another was born to the litter but was not properly named and is known only to the wolves as ‘Lightfall’. He is bound the seventh element, Spirit. The other wolves acknowledge the ties of the sightless and admit that they have some sort of ‘magical’ ambiance about them, but very few see the sightless as little more than mysterious prophets and slightly ‘different’ wolves. Very few have any idea of the true power of the sightless.

Songeagles : Sentient ‘birds’ that migrated to the wolves’ world from the ‘otherworld’. They are peaceful creatures and live side by side with the Ravenas pack. The Songeagles have their own language and very few of them speak the wolves’ language though all of them are capable of doing so. They stand about the high of an Emu and have long scale covered neck. On each of their feet is a large velocoraptor like claw. Their heads look like falcon’s and are covered with long wispy feathers except for a stiff crest. They have large powerful wings and are capable of flight.

Tadita: A small creature like the cross between a kangaroo , a bat, and a squirrel. The size of a small raccoon. Their body is roughly the same as a kangaroo’s except the have a pair of bat-like wings and a long squirrel-like tail.

Taiga (TAY-gah): The Leader of the Rowalkin. Best friends with Misty.

Tri-Spirits: The religious belief of most of the wolves. It constitutes that an unknown creator created the world and then left it (Perhaps to create another world. Or perhaps to wash the celestial dishes). The creator left two spirits behind to govern the world and keep the natural laws of it in check . One is the female essence (Earth. Also called ‘The Mother’) and the other is the male essence (Sky. Also called ‘The Heavens’ or sometimes ‘All Father’.). The wolves rather limited mythology states that the Earth and Sky made a pact with wolves when they (the wolves) came to the world that the wolves should behave in certain ways (Their ‘moral code’ if you will). Wolf mythology states that if the pact is broken between a wolf and the two essences that that wolf is not longer a part of nature and must seek redemption through good works. The Tyr pack’s belief takes the same tri-spirit concept to a more pantheistic approach saying that there are more spirits based, not just off the male and female essences, but off of the essences of nature itself. The only other pack that differs from this believe are the Fenris who believe in a set pantheon of gods and goddesses.

Tyr, the: The Pack that lives the furthest north. They literally live in the White Mountains. They dwell underground in huge interconnected burrows. Their Physical appearance is either white or black shaggy fur. Large broad paws that are good for digging through the frozen ground. Their eye color is either Yellow(if they are black) or Ice Blue (if they are white). They have great stamina. Their size is roughly the same size as an average earth wolf. Many of the Tyr seem to be ‘gifted’ with prophesy. Their ‘religious’ beliefs differ slightly from the ‘normal’ beliefs of the other packs in that they are slightly more pantheistic. Their alphas and leader are chosen on the basis of their power to prophesy. Their leader is Andrew. Tyr sub-packs are normally two to three times as large as the sub-packs of other species.

White: A Tyr wolf that is second in command of the healers.

Yarlen: Any wolf of the Tyr Subspecies/pack that is born a different color besides pure white or black. While Yarlens are very rare they are not though to be an extreme oddity.

Yepa (YEE-pah): One of the ‘corrupted’ sightless. A female. Linked to ice.
